June 4, 2009

Scripps Networks Digital, a multi-platform programmer that specialises in home, food and living categories, has made content from its Home & Garden Television (HGTV) programme available as a free iPhone app available from the iTunes store

The company says that the best of its design and real estate video, pics, tips and advice are only a touch away with users able to view clips from HGTV shows such as Designed to Sell, Curb Appeal, Get It Sold, and My First Place. While watching, and from inside the app, users can bookmark favourite programmes, share clips with friends, and rate the videos.

Videos include tips and ideas lend expert advice for designing the perfect room, preparing for an open house, and keeping up with seasonal ideas for the holidays. Scripps claims that users can witness just how a room went from bad to best via the full-screen, high-resolution, before-and-after makeover slideshows.

The application's video experience is supported by interactive advertising and features frequently updated and expanded HGTV content. The free app was designed and built by mobile video leader Rhythm NewMedia who hosts and serves the content, serves the ads, and includes ad inventory from the app in its mobile ad network. Rhythm's services include ad sales, ad serving, custom Smartphone application development, mobile site design, and mobile media hosting & serving.

"Inspiration can strike anytime and anywhere, especially with this new video-centric application, created to super serve HGTV fans who can't get enough of their favourite home shows," explained Deanna Brown, president of Scripps Networks Digital. "Our advertisers are always looking for new platforms to reach new audiences, and mobile is the way to be everywhere, but on a personal level."

The launch has also captured the attention of the mobile advertising community. "Homebuyers and sellers are constantly on the move and looking for ways to learn more about what's going on in real estate. The new HGTV iPhone app is a great way for Coldwell Banker to capture their attention and engage them whether they are at home or out and about," commented Michael Fischer, senior vice president of marketing at US real estate firm Coldwell Banker.
